I came across this error when trying to install Windows Server 2008 on a server that I had 2 x 300GB disks in which were RAID1.
It completely annoyed and baffled me as to why it wouldn’t continue. After much hacking to death with the actual setup of the disks and the windows installer I have found it comes down to a choice of things that need to be taken into account.
- Always ensure that your disk whether RAID or otherwise is the 0 or 1 disk. You can check this in your BIOS before you boot into the installer.
- Do not have any USB dongles connected to the server. (I needed one to install the RAID drivers).
The windows installer needs the disk to be the primary active disk before it will allow itself to be installed.

Lord what a pain in my ass.
My blog has been offline for about 2 weeks due to the little issue of me changing companies. I recently moved from Car Buyers Guide to Blacknight. The blog was hosted on a VPS within Blacknight for pretty much it’s life. The problem was that Car Buyers Guide were the buyers of that VPS
heh.
I’m now working with Blacknight as a Systems Engineer and I am completely loving it. All the toys, the people and the office is just great. Already so much learnt, so much still to learn.
Anyway, so we’re back online and still within Blacknight’s network, YAY!
The good news is, instead of doing the regular wordpress install on PHP within Apache, I decided to go with the Windows Server 2008 with IIS7 as a bit of a challenge. I originally tried to go for Windows 2003 with IIS6 but the URL rewriting turned out to be such a pain in the ass I just decided to upgrade and be done with it.
The bad news however, is that I have to start my blog all over again. All my posts are gone down the drain. My previous blog was not “turned off” but removed. I can’t really argue with that, it was my bad mistake for not backing up my website before I left. But hey, it’s nice to get a clean sheet to work off again….
